Dear Buckeye Families and Friends,
Our Summer Emergency Funding Campaign has officially begun! It kicked off this week when we sent out the video you see on this page to all of our Buckeye Foundation supporters. Hopefully you received the email! If not, be sure to add your name to the mailing list below. Already the donations have begun rolling in, and we hope the momentum for supporting our schools continues to build all summer long! If you have not yet made a donation, please visit our donation page today!
We continue to keep a close eye on the legislative action that affects our children. This coming Monday the legislature will present its budget proposal to the Governor to accept or reject. It continues to look like what the legislature would prefer to do is different than what the Governor originally proposed. The Governor is in favor of immediate cuts to education, that could be undone if more federal dollars materialize in the Fall. The legislature, in an apparent reaction to public outcry from districts like ours, would prefer the opposite approach, issuing deferrals that would have districts spend the federal money, essentially before we have it, then hope that it does materialize in the Fall. If it doesn't, we'd either need more deferrals at that point, or we'd make the necessary cuts then. Neither option is great. At least under the legislature's plan, we'd keep much of our teachers and staff, for now. The fear is that we may be facing deeper cuts down the road.
Whatever gets decided at the state level, our local mission is clear. We need to do all we can to support our schools NOW. While we realize self-help will only be part of the solution, we are pulling together to give our students the best our community has to offer! Please help SPREAD THE WORD that Buckeye Schools need our community's help! Together, we can make a big difference for our schools!
We are Buckeye!
